Testing the Censortive plugin
The other day I was quoted on Boingboing saying something or rather on the current state of censorship here following the “olympics buildup” covered in the world media recently. Subsequently I was contacted by a jounalist for comment. Why does this make me uneasy?
Because I love China, the people and the culture, I like living here, my job here and I don’t want to jeopodise my current situation. This doesn’t necessarliy mean I agree with every aspect of my host countries politics but this is how it is with free thinking, freedom loving laowais. Criticising a nations government is not necessarily the same as critising the nation.
I think most China blogging foriegners feel the same way and hope to give our adopted home a helping hand through the promotion of free speech and pursuasion through publicity. Its just a shame that even then, we need to tread so softly for fear of having something we so much took for granted back home taken away.
Which led me to try the Censortive plugin from Dao by Design, who incidently host this blog.
What about the situation in [*lsa*]? Free [*tbt*]

thanks for the link — i’m going to look into if after posting the comment.
it is hard sometimes to remember that it is governments that are usually the naughty ones, not the general public. look at my *wonderful* country — i associate the global hate to my *lovely* president and all the *good* he’s done. many people from my country wouldn’t hurt a fly, and don’t really have any problems with those in foreign countries…they’re happy in their small-town worlds, dealing with their private problems. People may elect or have some voice in their leaders or be made to follow their leaders, but (I think) we can’t hold all of the leaders’ actions to the people themselves.
tread lightly, tread lightly. (lol — is that why so many of us stick to topics like food and cooking in our blogs?)
