I commented on Jenny’s blog post regarding this letter in The Taipei Times, then realised it (my comment) summed up my thoughts perfectly:
As an outsider I saw a fiercely fought democratic election. Ironic given they practically voted this right away. I challenge anyone who voted red to live in China for a year and try exercising the same level of freedom of speech we’ve seen in the Taiwan the past 6 months.
Beijing is only interested in harmony to advance their own interests. They are not interested in diplomacy, they are not interested in listening. They are like a stubborn child who ’s throwing a temper tantrum till they get exactly what they want which is one China.. One China means no separate Taiwanese identity.
