My all time favourite restaurant in Suzhou right now is Shinkirou located in Suzhou’s rainbow walk.
Self described as Japanese Fusion and a fine dining experience I can tell you it delivers on all fronts. The restaurant itself is sophisticated with lots of private dining spaces yet still allowing you to take in the carefully crafted atmosphere which makes Shinkirou unique. Smoking is allowed through the whole restaurant, but only after 9.30. Everything from the light to the funky beats and volume is all paid special attention.
On arrival you are invited to peruse their extensive wine list while snacking on breadsticks with a sundried tomato dip and like Dream Herb, previously reviewed, you have the option of ordering from a set menu which I highly recommend giving you the opportunity to sample 3 or 4 courses from their carefully selected yet delightully diverse menu. The menu includes creative sushi, pasta’s, risotto’s and steaks (including kobe beef) and salads. Every dish seemed to surprise me with uniquely japanese influences and ingredients without compromise. Throughout your meal you are served hot bread rolls which take me back to childhood winter weekend lunches where my mum served hot breadrolls with her homemade soups. Be carefull not to over indulge on the free bread, though I guarantee you won’t be left hankering for more, which is often the case after the usual large plate small portion “fine dining experience.
Expect about CNY 350 per couple without the booze. (ok for a treat or if your on an expat package)
It’s hard to fault this restaurant. The best service outside of the 5 star hotels and food to match. Here’s what we ate last night:
